Thinking about overhauling the site...

I've been thinking about taking up a redesign project for my site in the coming months. One of the things I'm kicking around is moving over to wordpress. I noticed that they have a conversion tool for blogs that have resided on blogger. They seem to have more robust templates as well. Can any of you offer any words of wisdom on using wordpress and how painful or painless their conversion process is. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Do you backup your blog?

In light of Jim West "mysteriously" losing his entire blog last week, I've been thinking that maybe I should be periodically making an off-line copy of my blog/website for safe keeping. The easiest thing I could do is to ftp my entire site down to a CD or hard drive. Are any of you backing up your blogs? If so, what has worked well for you. ?

Should I be content with where I am in life?

I had dinner the other night with one of my dearest and closest friends. We were sharing about the various trials and tribulations each of us has had in our jobs over the past few months. There are times when we both wonder if we should search for that "greener" pasture someplace else. The reality is that each of us has been quite successful in our respective niche ares of information technology. Most people would be quite pleased with the benefits and compensation each of us receives. "What is the problem?", you ask. Call it boredom, lack of challenge or whatever you want. Truth be told, things aren't as new and exciting as they once were. Ultimately, I suggested that maybe we're both trying to gain too much of our life worth or meaning from our jobs. Maybe during this stage we should look for our "fulfillment" in our young families, our hobbies, educational pursuits, and most importantly our relationship with Jesus Christ. In the midst of the day to day challenges it can be difficult to remember this. To steal somebody else's overused phrase, we're looking for "life" in all the wrong places. Does anybody else have any words of wisdom on this?

New Finds at Deir al-Surian monastery

Peter M. Head over at Evangelical Textual Criticism, pointed out a recent article in The Independent which discusses some recent manuscript finds at the Deir al-Surian monastery in Egypt. I also came across a much more detailed article at forbes.com, which gives a lot more background information on the monastery, the condition of its library, and it also includes several photos. Happy readying!
